  • Client: The Domino Project
  • Author: Ralph Waldo Emerson

About the Project

For the Collector’s Edition of Self-Reliance we decided to collaborate with Brooklyn-based designers Holstee. Inspired by their company manifesto greeting cards, printed on recycled paper and elephant poop, we decided to create an alternate cover and a set of five greeting cards.

The response to the Collector’s Edition was overwhelmingly positive. We sold out of the limited edition sets in the first few hours they were available.

About the Cover

We designed the cover using quotes from Self-Reliance to create a short manifesto that embodied the essence of Emerson’s essay. This project was especially satisfying since the quote art went in the opposite direction of The Domino Project’s tradition of creating covers without words. It’s always fun to break your own rules once in a while, isn’t it?
